Frequently Asked Questions
Roofing
Deciding that you need a new roof is a big decision. Roofs are not inexpensive and, considering they should last for 20 years or more, it’s a long-term investment that should not be taken lightly. We’ve answered some of the most common questions about roofing in this section.

What are some signs that I may need a new roof?
Residential roofs typically have a 15 to 30-year lifespan, so if your roof is reaching the 15-year mark, it makes sense to start keeping an eye on it. If there has been a major storm in your area (especially one with high winds or hail), you should also be on the lookout for these issues even if your roof is newer. Here are some issues you might notice that could indicate its time for a professional to take a look:
- Curling shingles
- Missing shingles
- Broken or damaged shingles
- Visible cracks
- Loss of asphalt or ‘bald spots’
- Cracked or discolored interior drywall or ceiling spots (signs of a leak)
Will I need a repair or a replacement?
Unfortunately, we won’t know the answer to that until our roofing experts can climb up and take a look. Many times, especially in the cases of damage due to storms, a repair can suffice. Schedule a consultation with our professionals to know for sure.
How much will a new roof cost?
This is probably the MOST frequently asked question, but it’s one that has many variables. The cost of your new roof depends on what material you choose to use, the square footage, the type of roof and, of course, the contractor you choose. We encourage all those we speak with to not make a decision on cost alone as quality certainly matters in the roofing industry.
How long will it take to get my new roof installed?
We know that having a roof installed can be a hassle, and we try to make the process as quick and painless as possible. Though there are some variations depending on the type of roof we are installing and the weather, we try to complete each roof within 5 days.
What type of roof do you most recommend?
This is an individual decision based on a number of factors including cost, aesthetics and the type of roof on your home. We represent a variety of manufacturers and will be able to suggest the best possible roofing materials to complete your project to your satisfaction.
How can I prepare my family for the roof replacement project?
No matter how good a crew is, the roof replacement process is still a noisy and messy one. We will do all we can to ensure your project is done quickly and with a minimum of disruption, but there are some steps you can take to help us (and yourself!).
- Consider taking the family on a vacation or to visit family during the process. That way, you can avoid the noise and the mess and, when you come home, you’ll have a brand new roof. Remember to take the pets, too! The noisiness involved can sometimes disturb animals.
- If you intend to remain home during the process, park your cars in the street to avoid the mess and debris that come with the project, and to give our crew access to prime space.
- If you have a pool, cover it during the process.
- Don’t let anything remain outside that could be damaged. This includes bikes, motorcycles, lawn equipment or anything else that could be damaged by falling shingles or debris.
Siding
Installing or replacing siding is a big undertaking. The right siding can enhance the look of your home or commercial property as well as keep energy and maintenance costs low. There are a number of options and providers available, so we understand you may have questions. Hopefully we can answer a few of them below.

What kind of siding should I choose?
This is a question that depends on a number of variables including cost, durability and the type of finished look you are expecting. Of all the types of siding we install, vinyl is by far the most popular. The reasons for this are many, but top of the list is that vinyl siding requires little if any maintenance and, if damaged, can easily be replaced. One of the other top features of vinyl siding is its durability. Warranties on vinyl siding can range from 20-40 years and are resistant to heat, cold and moisture and can withstand up to 100 mph winds. Vinyl siding is also the most affordable siding option on the market.
We do offer other types of siding, including wood and cement-backed, which are often chosen because of their appearance or durability. When we consult with you on your project, we can present every option we offer and find the right fit for you.
How do I choose a reputable siding contractor?
Having siding installed or replaces is a large financial commitment. It makes sense that you would be worried about hiring a contractor with the best reputation and experience. We recommend you talk to a few different contractors and take into consideration a number of factors, including experience in the local market, testimonials and expertise. Though cost will almost certainly be a factor, we encourage you not to make a decision based on cost alone. As with everything, you get what you pay for and the exterior or your home or commercial building is not a place to cut corners.
Is there an ideal season to have siding installed?
Unless the weather is very inclement (torrential rains or below freezing temps), siding can be installed during any season. You may be able to find more available contractors during the off season (mainly winter), but it really depends on what works best for your budget and timeline. Waiting a few weeks for the best contractor to complete your project is well worth it.

How do I know if I need new windows?
The look and condition of your windows will tell you if you need replacements. If windows are starting to look shoddy no matter how much you clean them, the time may have arrived to look into replacements. Also, if you feel drafts coming in near windows or your heating and cooling costs are steadily increasing, it may be time to talk to a professional about replacement options.
Can I get windows installed year-round?
Many people worry about having windows replaced in extremely hot or cold weather. While it may be ideal to have the project completed during mild weather, we can install new windows year-round. Most projects can be completed in a day, causing little to no disruption in your schedule.
How do I prepare for my window replacement project?
When you have decided to have your windows replaced and have scheduled the project, there are some preparations you can make to ensure the project goes smoothly. Take down curtains, blinds or any window treatments. If you have security sensors, they should be removed and turned off by your security company. You should also provide a clear path to the windows being replaced so our experts can get to them without obstruction.
Gutters
Although gutters may not seem incredibly important to your home or office (especially when you are comparing them against roofs or siding), old or non functioning gutters can cause numerous problems including basement flooding, roof damage and more. Having new seamless gutters installed can give you peace of mind knowing that your home is prepared to deal with any force of nature. Here are some common questions we’re asked about our gutter options.
